Absurd Automationa film about the work that keeps repeating · workflows, integrations, document AI

Goodbye, copy–paste. The stone rolls itself.

We connect the tools you already use, so the work keeps moving without you pushing it.

Logline

Every day, someone copies the same details from one place to another. This is the story of the day they stopped, and the quiet machine that took over.

A sand table: a spiral drawn inward to a single point, a steel ball at its centre

Scene 1

Trigger

It starts with a message. Everything that arrives is drawn to one clear starting point.

  1. An enquiry lands in the inbox.
  2. A form, an email or a scheduled check: that is where the work begins.
  3. The same request, sent twice, does not become two tasks.
  4. From here on, nobody has to remember to start it.

Director’s notes

INT. INBOX — A NEW ENQUIRY

A message arrives. Somewhere, a person is about to copy its details into three other places, the way they did yesterday.

Absurd Automation

(the key decision)

Give every flow one clear starting point, and make repeats harmless.

The trigger catches the message, checks that it has what it needs and starts the flow once, even when the same request arrives twice.

Cut to:

A sand table: four circles joined by one line, labelled enquiry, CRM, task and reminder

Scene 2

Workflow

From inbox to next step: enquiry, CRM, task, reminder.

  1. The details are saved in the CRM.
  2. A task is created for the right person.
  3. A reminder goes out, on time, without anyone setting it.
  4. Anything unusual comes back to a person, with the details they need.

Director’s notes

INT. THE OFFICE — THE FOLLOW-UP NOBODY FORGETS

Routine requests move on their own. The person who used to chase them now only sees the ones that genuinely need a decision.

Absurd Automation

(the key decision)

Agree on the rules together, and test the flow before it becomes part of your day.

Insert — Recovery: a way back on track.

If a step fails, you can see why, who needs to know and what happens next.

Cut to:

A sand table: a spirograph star drawn by gears turning inside gears, labelled email, CRM, sheets and apps

Scene 3

Integrations

Enter it once. Email, CRM, spreadsheets and internal apps, turning together.

  1. A client is updated in three places. By hand.
  2. An order is copied into a sheet. Again.
  3. Now an update in one tool reaches the others that need it.
  4. One record holds the truth, and everyone can see where things stand.

Director’s notes

INT. FOUR APPLICATIONS — ONE RECORD

The tools already exist. They simply don’t talk to each other, so a person carries the data between them.

Absurd Automation

(the key decision)

Agree which tool holds the main record, and how updates reach the others.

Insert — Handover: yours to work with.

Your accounts, setup and instructions stay with you. Ongoing support is agreed together.

Cut to:

A sand table raked line by line like a scanner, with marks for supplier, date and amount for review

Scene 4

Documents & AI

Find the part you need, and keep the page it came from.

  1. Invoices, forms, reports and long PDFs.
  2. AI reads them line by line and pulls out the details.
  3. Anything unclear is marked for a second look, with a reason.
  4. Every answer keeps a line back to its original page.

Director’s notes

INT. THE ARCHIVE — A PILE OF PAPER

Looking for a detail. Retyping it into a sheet. Checking which page it came from. Every week.

Absurd Automation

(the key decision)

Treat what the model extracts as a draft. Your team decides when it is ready to move on.

Insert — Source: back to the original.

Extracted information stays connected to the document and page it came from. A draft and an approved result stay distinct.

Production schedule

One task. Then the next.

Every automation follows the same schedule, from the task you would happily stop repeating to the handover.

Director’s statement

“One must imagine Sisyphus happy — especially once the stone rolls itself.”

After Albert Camus, with apologies

On the title

Camus called the absurd the gap between what we expect and what the world gives back. Admin lives in that gap: the same details, copied again, every day.

The absurd solution is not to push harder. It is to let the stone roll on its own, and keep people for the decisions that matter.
